Hi there,my name is George H Smyth and I've just joined this site. I am a painter living and working over here in Ireland,I have just launched a major website on my work. It took nearly a year to put together, goes right back to my student work at University ,contains a little section on my late father's watercolours as well as the album covers I did in the early '90s for Irish rock band Therapy? Looking for as much feedback as possible at this stage.Enjoy! www.georgehsmyth.com .

A group of poets are having a day out along the coast and have invited an artist to join them (me) to try and capture some of the scenes only their inspired minds can conjure up.
I wanted to paint a modern Goddess, powerful, massive, her stature spanning space and time, day and night. Man small and in awe of her presence-just like it was in the past!
A painting from last summer. I wanted to try and convey the idea that all time and space contained within the piece was emanating from the centre of the clock. A man at the helm of his own existence!
A recent commission of mine painted for a client named John who loved DeChirico's "Song of Love" from 1914. St.John's Point is the name of the peninsula at the bay where I live.
The first painting I did earlier this year for my now cancelled L.A show. I reckon I hit the nail right on the head with this one, once completed I feel I don't need to say any more-a good feeling!
I wanted to produce a piece that made the viewer feel like they were inside one of my paintings. The serendipity occurs when the viewer "gets it" and feels like they are sitting in the boat.
Easily a favourite of one of my own paintings! Dating back to 2001,it's the kind of piece that if I came across in a gallery it would inspire me to paint. Interesting when an artist has a favourite of their own work...
A recurring theme in my work. A central figure who has outgrown his environment and turns his attention towards new horizons. This guy's obviously being kept awake by his thoughts!
The last piece for my upcoming N.Y. show. A man fully aware of his present situation but focused on the future.
I have worked in the art world for almost ten years and every now and then I am still surprised by the different viewpoints that exist on the topic. For example, when I work I have a very functional view - I tend to think of an artwork as a thing made out of canvas, paint, steel, bronze, plastic or a combination of materials. This thing (or pair of things) needs to be framed, installed, condition checked, repaired, crated, flown, customs cleared, preferably not damaged and especially not lost.
