When did you first describe yourself as an artist?:
Gradual progression from body painting and prosthetics in my film make up work - which led me to study sculpture full time.
Describe your early memories of your emerging talent as an artist?:
The first time I went to a life class and tried clay modelling – was immediately addicted. I found it came very naturally and decided that was what I wanted to do as a career
Other influences:
The human form .. people’s faces – endlessly inspirational. Italian renaissance clay and wax maquettes.
Admired Artists:
Giambologna, Michaelangelo, Rodin.
Rembrandt, Holbein, Francis Bacon, Rosso.
Role of figurative art:
To move – tap into universal emotions - express hidden truths & beauty - reveal the human condition.
Other Interests:
I enjoy teaching and sharing my enthusiasm - and learning from others – coming to it as a 2nd career I have a long way still to go..
Tango takes up a huge part of my life – 2 or 3 nights a week dancing, which is a perfect antidote to sitting hunched over a portrait for hours, + the music is v emotional and beautiful and perfect to sculpt to.
Between the two there’s not enough hours in the day for much else – family and friends have to squeeze in ..
