Describe your early memories of your emerging talent as an artist?:
i started painting in oils in early 1999, shortly after having to leave college due to illness problems. i decided to try oil painting mainly just for something to do. i did a still life which turned out quite well, so i started a second. i struggled with this for a while but then had my first real idea for a painting (a hangover picture, the second version of which is on here). many more ideas followed (a mixture of visions and intellectual ideas usually) and i have been painting them ever since.
Formal Training:
btec diploma in 3d design(unfinished)
Other influences:
i am inspired by the energy and chaos of the city viewed from the boredom of the suburbs. i am interested in the beauty of the mundane. during my 2 1/2 years at college i had once a week drawing lessons with a fine art teacher called Max Middleton who helped improve my drawing a great deal and was a huge inspiration generally due to his passion and personality.
Admired Artists:
Francis Bacon
Peter Blake
Edgar Degas
Lucien Freud
Edward Hopper
L.S Lowry
Edvard Munch
Carel Weight
Favorite Gallery:
the national gallery, London
Other Interests:
i love music, mostly 60's and 70's pop and rock as well as jazz and classical music. i also play guitar but only for personal pleasure. i read great deal mostly classic novels and books on art and artists. i also have an interest in history (mostly WW2 and Russian history) so i read a lot on these subjects. i enjoy visiting history museums, particularly the IWM Duxford as i love old airplanes.
