Describe your early memories of your emerging talent as an artist?:
As a child, I was always drawing and painting, normally boats, the water, and sometimes old buildings. A change of teacher mid way through GCSE Art and Design led to me believing that I had some artistic talent, but it wasn't until I had toyed with other creative avenues (theatre, music) that I came to the realisation that I was by far my happiest when behind an easel.
Other influences:
The pre-raphelite brotherhood, the impressionists, colour, nature.
Role of figurative art:
The role of figurative art in my life has been two pronged - on the one side, it is something I get great enjoyment in creating, and on the other, I am truly in my element when surrounded by good figurative art - lod or new, by unknown or famous artist.
I also strongly believe that the time is right for figurative art to regain it's place in the art world - too long has it been put aside for conceptual art to laugh at; and although there are many pieces of abstract and conceptual art that are fantastic and thought provoking, it has also become an excuse for artists not to use the skills and talents they were born with.
