Preferred Style:
Anything that challenges the norm. Expressions of the inner self.
Describe the extent of your talent as an artist:
Creating things is just fun for me, and I have always been told by people who have seen my work that I am talented. When it comes to being creative, I don't think there is anything I can't do. When it comes to things that are technical in nature like computer programing and computer repair I get very frustrated.
Describe your early memories of your emerging talent as an artist?:
I used to draw pictures for my grandma, and mail them to her as a kid. She saved every one of my drawings. Years after she passes away, my mom showed me the drawings I sent to my grandma as a child, and I was amazed! Sometimes I wonder if I was a better artist before all of my formal training, so I'm always trying to tap back into my inner child for inspiration while using my training as a tool to enhance the over all quality of my work.
Other influences:
As a kid, my parents were always enrolling me in art programs in the community. I have taken a life drawing class at the Lynsey Wildlife Museum, where I enjoyed drawing animals. I attended a ceramics class that was held at Civic Park in Walnut Creek many years ago, and a drawing comic books class that was taught by Ben Edlund, creator of a comic book called "The Tick."
Admired Artists:
Keven Eastman and Peter Laird, creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Vincent Van Gogh, for his Starry Night and Cafe Terrace at Night paintings
Role of figurative art:
To capture the essence of something's sole, and not just purely copying what the eye sees from reality. Figurative art should visually broadcast an energy from the form and the movement of the creation. Plato says that all art is three times removed. Once from heaven, twice from mind, and thrice again as it is interpreted ingenuously to itself upon the artist's canvas. Figurative art shows the way the artist feels about the subject.
